Table Tennis

Established in 2003, SMU Table Tennis Club aims to serve two main purposes for our vibrant school environment. SMU Table Tennis Club hopes to provide a platform for table tennis enthusiasts to gather and train. With this platform, our club hopes to propel SMU forward and onto the arena of Inter-Varsity and Polytechnic Annual Competition. Aligned with SMU’s quest for both academic and non-academic excellence, SMU Table Tennis Club also provides training and coaching for recreational players who simply want to “sweat it out”. So, do come down and join us for a round or two!

Interesting information: Table Tennis team has a Robot that feeds balls to players, acting as a training partner.

Tchoukball

SMU Tchoukball (pronounced as chuke-ball) is a competitive indoor team sport that contains the element of Handball, Volleyball and Squash. Tchoukball can be physically demanding when played competitively. The basic elements of sport – Speed, Agility and Teamwork are required to perform effectively on court.

SMU Tchoukball was officially formed in 2014, comprising of sportsmen and women coming from different diverse sporting backgrounds. Prior to 2014, SMU Tchoukball has been training independently outside of school and performed consistently with top 3 standing in all the tertiary competitions it competed in. We aim to be an established competitive sport club in SMU through dedication, commitment, heart and soul.

Tchoukball was created by Dr. Hermann Brandt, a Swiss biologist who was concerned by the serious injuries among sportsmen resulting from sports prone to aggression and physical contact. Besides safety, Tchoukball was created with the principle of the founder that sports should not only form champions, but also contribute to the creation of a better and more humane society. Today, Tchoukball has been recognized by the United Nations (UN) for its ability to inculcate values that transcend the athletic aspects of the sport.

Our mission is to promote the spirit of Tchoukball and bring forward the principles of its founder Dr. Hermann Brandt. SMU Tchoukball strongly believes and advocates Dr. Brandt’s principle that “the objective of human physical activities is not to make champions, but rather to help construct a harmonious society”.

Taekwondo

SMU Taekwondo was established in 2002, at the old Bukit Timah campus. The vision was to allow SMU students with talents or aspirations in Taekwondo to train and learn the Korean martial arts together. The club was founded under the motto of Sport, Family, A way of life to promote a warm and comfortable family environment. However, to adapt to the excitingly dynamic culture that has developed at SMU since the move to the city campus, SMU Taekwondo is now embracing a more competitive club culture, along with the introduction of a new coach. We have now moved from an relatively uncompetitive CCA to one which strives for excellence in the competition arena, while not forgetting our goal of establishing a strong family culture. With that direction in mind, our aim is now to train our members in the various categories of specialities to win medals, titles and glorify both SMU and SMU Taekwondo!

Track & Field

SMU Track and Field prides itself on its tightly knit band of athletes who are deeply passionate about sporting excellence and sportsmanship. Our motto, “Exceed Yourself”, encapsulates our very mindsets and is manifested in our trainings, where our athletes consistently strive to break boundaries and push beyond their comfort zones. Despite the popular belief that Track and Field is an individualized sport, working towards a common goal and gritting it together on the red and green has, on the contrary, established a sense of camaraderie amongst our athletes.

Our club has bravely competed in the annual IVP Championships yearly since 2005 and despite being the smallest team, we have always been at least in the top six with an outstanding performance in 2008 by achieving an overall third position.

Track and Field welcomes anyone and everyone who is interested in this core sport and would like to subscribe to our core values of excellence, passion and discipline.
