Judo
1. History of Club
The SMU Judo Club was one of the first few CCA clubs established in SMU. In 2000, the club was inaugurated with the goal of bringing Judokas together, promoting the sport as an ideal way to get fit, stay fit and have lots of fun training. It is also hoped that Judokas acquire mental and physical strength, empowering themselves through the oriental teachings and discipline of the martial art.
2. Club Core Activities
Training sessions are held every Friday evening from 7-9pm in the CCA Room, and we are currently looking at having an additional session on another weekday night. Alternatively, we have extra optional training sessions on Wednesdays at 7.30pm and Saturdays 4pm, at the Hwa Chong institution dojo located at Bukit Timah.
3. Who will enjoy the CCA (as in the definition of the type of individuals that would enjoy the sport – Who should join, etc)?
Judo comes in 2 flavors – recreational and competitive Judo. Anyone of any size who is keen on learning and taking up a form of self defense, while having plain good fun and keeping fit, can join recreational Judo.
On the contrary, individuals seeking to empower themselves mentally and physically, raising the limits on their endurance and pitting their techniques and wits against other real Judo opponents, are very much encouraged to take up the competitive side of the sport.
