Shooting
Established since 2005, the SMU Air Rifle Club exists to recruit and train students of the university who have past experience or who desire to pick up the sport. The club also aims to foster friendship, teamwork spirit and love of the sport that members will take with them long after they leave the university and club.
We aim not just to excel in our main events (10m Air Rifle and 10am Air Pistol) but to raise awareness of shooting as a sport in SMU. As such we wish to re-establish our club as SMU Shooting and bring in other branches of shooting under ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) to SMU such as trap/skeet shooting.
Soccer (Men)
As part of the SSU fraternity, SMU Men’s Soccer team remains as one of the university’s oldest and most attractive clubs. The team’s motto, “Passion Kicks In”, reflects SMUSoccer’s commitment to strive for sports excellence through our members, school staff and alumni.
Each year, SMUSoccer welcomes passionate and talented players from each of the university’s six schools to join the team for training and friendly matches. The cream of the crop will have the honour to represent the SMU in the much-coveted Singapore University Games (SUniG) and the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) league. Recently, the team clinched gold in the 2009 SUniG tournament and is looking to defend their title this year.
Besides gunning for sporting colours, SMUSoccer aims to inculcate a strong soccer culture in the university. The club organizes both the Prof Cup, an annual futsal competition aimed to promote soccer nationwide and Le Basi, the popular inter-faculty soccer competition for each of the university’s six schools to fight for honours. These tournaments are hugely contested, especially Le Basi, where students and professors alike often go all out for their faculties to earn bragging rights.
As with all national football teams, there is a genuine camaraderie in SMUSoccer. Many of the members are best buddies after joining the club. Its alumni have also been very supportive of the club, often coming down for matches to cheer the team on. In fact, SMUSoccer boasts some of the top students in the university, and all members graduate with flying colours to embark on successful careers.
Sailing
The SMU Sailing Club was founded in 2004 by a group of friends who enjoyed nothing more than to be out on the water together. Years later, the club has grown to accommodate an expanded fleet of boats and membership but our sailors have always kept our underlying principles of friendship, teamwork and passion while creating waves in the sailing community all around the world.
With the invaluable support of Singapore Management University‘s (SMU) Office of Student Life, SMU Sailing has gone where no other university sports club has gone before. Over the years we have made many friends of sailing and have impressed sailors from all over the world with our enthusiasm, passion and eagerness to learn from the sport.
Being a university sports club, SMU Sailing is focused on the development of leadership qualities in our sailors through the numerous opportunities to organize, plan and run events. We aim to enhance the critical skills that sailors learn on the water so that they can apply them in the corporate world.
The SMU Sailing club continues to grow from strength to strength as we recruit both experienced and non-experienced sailors from the SMU community annually. The club currently owns 4 keel-boats berthed at Raffles Marina that we use for regular water training on the weekends. The club competes regularly in many local regattas as well as regattas held in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. In addition, team also travels to Greece, China and Australia for major regattas.
Above all, the SMU Sailing club is more than just a sports team. We are a family.
Our Sports Clubs
Soccer (Women)
We play soccer on a competitive level and take part in two major tournaments annually, namely UNITEC and SUniG (Singapore University Games) in February and September respectively. In addition, the team also competes in external ad-hoc futsal competitions such as the Northwest CDC Futsal Challenge.
SMU Women's Soccer is also the organizer of Diva la Futbol, Singapore’s largest all-female futsal event held annually in June. Over the years, it has seen increasing participation of more than 500 girls convening in this highly-anticipated competition to flaunt their futsal skills on the pitch. The 2014 edition this year marks the 12th anniversary of this iconic event.
Our training schedule is as follows:
Monday: 0900-1100hrs at St. Wilfrid field
Wednesday: 1900-2100hrs at SMU (physical training)
Friday: 0900-1100hrs at St. Wilfrid field
It doesn’t matter if you have playing experience or if you’re just interested in picking up a new sport, join us for a kick about and we promise that you’ll have a ball of a time!

Softball
SMU softball was founded in 2005 by 4 enterprising girls, with our club founder being Grace, a girl of extraordinary vision. Between them, 2 had only picked up softball in JC while the other 2 had never played it before.
The club grew by leaps and bounds from such humble beginnings. Notable milestones include the inaugural Camp Nua recreation camp in 2007, coming in first in the SBSA Slow Pitch Tournament novice category to achieving 1st place in the Tri Uni Fast Pitch Tourney in 2008.
However, it is not our past achievements or success that define who we are, but rather, what we aim to be in the future that sets us apart. Our club is proud to have reached where we are today, from a humble, small group of students into a team of many passionate and like-minded athletes who seek to redress the injustice that softball has suffered over the years.
We want to extend our coverage wider and broader to make sure that people will no longer ask us the age-old question, “Is a softball soft?” We want them to understand the sport and share our love for the game that has stolen the hearts of many worldwide, including America, Japan, Taiwan, Canada just to name a few.
Ultimately, it is not what we want that matters, but rather what you want, what the people want. And we know that deep down, everybody wants a taste of SMU softball.
P.S. A softball is really hard.

Squash
For the past few years, SMU Squash has been an excellent avenue for Squash enthusiasts in SMU to enjoy Squash and have fun. Not only do we train competitively, we gladly welcome inexperienced players who are interested in Squash and would like to have a feel of playing the game. Recreational squash plays a major part in SMU Squash as well.
SMU Squash hires a coach to train the players regularly, with our home ground based in Yio Chu Kang Sports Complex. Apart from the competition season, SMU Squash adopts a flexible approach during training, taking into account the new players who have no experience in Squash but are deeply interested in learning the sport.
The squash members are generally fun-loving and easy-going, who not only enjoy having a good time of Squash together, but also in other external recreational activities. SMU Squash is not just a group of Squash players, but instead, a team of friends who work hard, and play hard together.
If you are fun-loving, out-going, and are deeply interested in the game of Squash, we gladly welcome you to be part of our SMU Squash family!
